Newark,
New Jersey born Ernest "Shukara" Walker was adopted by Victor
and Bobbie Cannon and raised in aworking class neighborhood. After
showing early skill at drawing he attended Arts High in Newark and
Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. There he majored in cartooning and illustration.
Ernie spends most of his free time as a starving and cursing artist.
However, various writing, drawing and painting projects distract him
from his primary task of keeping his two cats (Bubastis and Bowie)
from killing each other. Over the years he has developed a diverse portfolio. Mr. Walker has done illustrations, comic books, CD covers, murals, political cartoons and spot illustrations. He has done paintings, murals, illustrations, comic books, CD covers, political cartoons, Chapbooks, logos, Past clients include: Ed Lover and Dr. Dre, The Aquarian Weekly, Heal thyself and the East Orange Public Library. A founding member of the New Newark Artists Collective, he has been known to go to openings simply for the free wine and cheese. He is an expert at writing autobiographies in the third person. |
