Suzanne Anan:

Suzanne’s larger than life figurative oil paintings combine a subtly smooth surface with rich color and subject. Her new series Art & Poetry, honors the writings of Sir Thomas Wyatt, William Butler Yeats, Pablo Neruda, Mary Oliver, St. John of the Cross, Robert Frost and D.H. Lawrence. She portrays her figures with an exciting and riotous mixture of subject that are as tempestuous as they are peaceful. These works represent a diverse blend of the “fateful” and a strong feeling that something is about to happen—or has happened.

Her education includes a Masters Degree of Art from New York University and a Bachelors of Fine Art from Kean University. Suzanne spent two years in Venice, Italy where she studied painting, art history and theory under the direction of Dr. Angiola Churchill. Her work has appeared in 13 exhibitions; 3 of which were in Italy and 4 in New York City. Her artwork has been featured and sold abroad and in local galleries, collected by the Johnson & Johnson Foundation, commissioned by the Newark Museum for the Dynamic Earth exhibit and donated to The Monmouth Medical Foundation.

She works in earnest as a full time artist, both in fine art and graphic design. For the past 12 years she has worked at The Star-Ledger in Newark, NJ as a graphic designer. Recently, she designed The Newark Museum’s 100th Anniversary special section and their Masterpieces of Art Pottery exhibition catalog. Both pieces won state awards for design. Suzanne also volunteers her time at the State Theatre of NJ and is the winner of two state awards for poster design titled Beethoven Experience and Noche Flamenca. She is a former adjunct professor of Kean University’s Department of Design, and the former Vice President of the Art Directors Club of New Jersey. She remains devoted to the advancement of art and art education.
