The Maplewood Arts Council is currently inviting fine artists and fine jewelry makers to apply to present their work in front of a committee of well-known and respected jurors at the second annual Maplewood Arts Walk on Sunday, September 29th.  Artists, photographers, and jewelry craft makers will be featured displaying and selling their hand-crafted and original work in a town that has its heart and soul in the arts.

Judging the event this year are three prominent art critics, Ann Schaffer, Tara O’Leary, and Jim Oliver. Jim Oliver is currently the director of Mary Boone gallery, an advisor to private collectors, and he has personally supervised the installation of over 500 exhibitions, some of which were curated by him. At least a dozen arts and cultural organizations will participate in the Art Walk., alongside many cafes and restaurants. Live performances will be scheduled throughout the event and a schedule will be posted later in the year. “This community is alive with artists from many disciplines. SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

The Newark Arts Council (NAC) in conjunction with the Greater Newark Convention and Visitors Bureau (GNCVB) is requesting proposals from artists for participation in a project to design large-scale footballs for a public art display celebrating Super Bowl XLVIII in the Meadowlands in February 2014.   These footballs will be publicly placed to kick-off the NFL’s 2013–14 football season, becoming an integral part of the Super Ball Central activities. In addition, the region has been selected by the NFL to host Media Day, one the League’s biggest events. Media Day is set for January 28, 2014 and will take place at the Prudential Center. Upwards of 5,000 media representatives are anticipated to tour the city and cover this project.

Completed sculptures will be placed at strategic locations throughout the city, particularly at major transportation hubs and high traffic areas in the region area such as: Newark Liberty International Airport, Newark Penn Station, Prudential Center, The Outlet Collection | Jersey Gardens, and Union County Courthouse. Cultural attractions like Newark Museum and neighborhood destinations like the Ironbound will also be home to the sculptures.

CALL FOR ART – Cell Mates

CALL FOR ART – Cell Mates

The Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University seeks submissions for “Cell Mates,” two distinct group shows that will be on view side

by side in adjacent galleries. Curators Jeanne Brasile and Lisbeth Murray will divide the 2,000 sq. ft. gallery in half, creating two

separate exhibitions of artwork inspired by cellular forms. The curators seek art that addresses a wide range of topics related to

cellular forms to create a discursive exploration into microorganisms and concerns derived from their study.  The goal of the

curators is to demonstrate modes of creation inspired by science, in addition to examining how curators using thesame

narrative framework can come to very different thematic and aesthetic conclusions. While aesthetics are a concern, the

curators are particularly interested in how artists incorporate scientific methods into their practice, how artists obscure or

pronounce the delineation between artistic and scientific practices, and/or how artists visualize scientific data to create works of

art, placing the artist in the role of quasi-scientist. All types of media are eligible.

Exhibition dates are June 2 through July 18, 2013. $15/5 entries.

Deadline: Wednesday May 1, 2013 (receipt date)
