March 26 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Tuesday, March 26, 2019 | 6-7:30 PM
The Newark Public Library, First Floor LGBTQ Center | 5 Washington Street, Newark, NJ 07102

Dr. William Peniston, Librarian and Archivist at the Newark Museum, and Nadine Sergejeff, Special Collections Librarian at the Newark Public Library, will speak about the history of collecting at these two institutions. Learn about how John Cotton Dana, the Museum’s founder and the second director of the Library, used prints as a teaching tool and the reasons why he collected certain works of art, particularly Japanese prints, and how this tradition continues to this day. The program will also feature a talk by Rocco Scary, book artist, who is currently working on a project called “Newark Memories.” A sampling of prints will be on display.

This program is part of the anniversary celebration of The Newark Public Library and The Newark Museum. The exhibit, Promoting Books and Objects: Empowering Newarkers, will be on view in the third floor gallery until  August 31st, 2019.
