March 10 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Produced by Ife Basim
“Storms Weathered” is a musical production that features fictional, intimate discussions between four of the most renowned women in jazz and blues history – Billie Holiday, Josephine Baker, Bessie Smith and Ethel Waters. The play presents an in-depth look into the lives of these amazing women, giving audiences a greater understanding of the remarkable inner strength each of them possessed. Four women, four conversations, revealing and exploring the survival, success, struggles and legacy they have all
experienced and shared.
The women address their early childhood and lost innocence, the highs and lows of their careers, the downward spirals, controversies, groundbreaking advocacy and the priceless contributions of timeless music.
This brutally honest discourse reveals how these dynamic women found the courage to persevere in their careers and personal lives; courage that allowed them to lay the foundation for the sound and style of entertainers past, present, and future. It also seeks to empower its viewers with a sense of purpose and meaning for their own personal life endeavors.
Storms Weathered promises to be a truly fascinating, high-impact production that will be just as enlightening, disturbing, and overwhelming, as it is entertaining and enjoyable. Stars Patricia Walton as Billie Holiday, Phyliss Blanford as Josephne Baker, Omisanya Karade as Ethel Waters and Ife Basim as Bessie Smith and features a live four-piece band.
