February 24 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pmFree
*This is a free Adult School event but registration is required. Please see ticketing information link.
Acclaimed sculptor and assemblage artist Willie Cole returns to Montclair after his successful one-man show, “Anxious Objects: Willie Cole’s Favorite Brands: Willie Cole” exhibited at the Montclair Art Museum in 2006. He will discuss his inspirations and creative processes, including the use of discarded materials such as women’s heels, bottles and irons to create thought-provoking sculptures, prints and masks that reference African culture, domestic labor, religion and the legacy of Black women. His works have been displayed at the Montclair Art Museum, Newark Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art and major galleries and museums across the U.S. and overseas.
Artist, educator and administrator Nette Forne’ Thomas will moderate the discussion.
Cole will provide materials (3-D models of select sculptures, books and posters) for display in the library starting Saturday, Feb. 1 in celebration of African American History Month.
