Studio Montclair seeks entries for the 22nd Annual Open Juried Exhibition “ViewPoints 2019” at Studio Montclair Gallery, Studio Montclair’s nonprofit gallery located in the downtown Montclair Arts District from May 2 to June 15, 2019.
“ViewPoints,” now in its 22nd year, expands the reach of SMI to introduce artists not only from New Jersey but from across the nation and the world to our regional community. Over the last 21 years, we have had many prominent jurors and artists participate in this exhibition.
Jeanne Brasile is the Director of the Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University. She earned a BA from Ramapo College of New Jersey with a concentration in art history and studio art and a Master’s in Museum Studies from Seton Hall University where she is also an adjunct in the Museum Professions Graduate Program. Ms. Brasile is an independent curator and frequent lecturer on such topics as public art, curatorial practice, and institutional critique. During her career of nearly 20 years, she has curated numerous shows throughout New York and New Jersey and worked at institutions such as Storm King Art Center, The South Street Seaport Museum and the Montclair State University Art Galleries.
Eligibility: Open to all fine artists.
Entry Fee: SMI Members: $35, Non-members: $40 for up to 3 images. $5/ea. additional work, max of 5.
-Online entry (Entrythingy).
-Artists may submit 5 jpg images.
-All media accepted including videos and installations.
-Work must have been completed within the past 2 years. Work previously shown in any SMI exhibition will not be accepted.
-Three views of 3D work will be accepted.
-For JPEG file format images. Files should be a minimum size of 1600 pixels on the longest side. We will accept lower resolution images, but please note that those images cannot be used for publicity. Digital images should be cropped to show only your artwork. If edges are irregular, it is best to photograph against a black background.
-Submit work that will be available for the duration of the exhibition. No substitutions will be accepted after selections are finalized.
-Please note for accepted work: The profile you submit with Entrythingy will be used for the online gallery.
-No giclée reproductions of original art accepted.
-2D work: Maximum 6 feet in any direction. All wall-hung art must be properly wired for hanging, no saw-tooth hangers. Stretched canvas may have finished painted edges or strip framing. No large decorative frames. Gallery format framing only. Exceptions allowed, if the frame is part of the finished piece and submitted as such. Visit SMI website for framing requirements.
-3D work: Maximum 4 feet in any direction.
-Video: mov, mp4, and wmv files will be accepted up to 500mg.
-Floor installation: Maximum 36x36x72 high not to exceed 100 lbs
NO ceiling hung work. Electronic and digital works must be ready to show – artists must provide all components. Artists must supply their own pedestals.
Work not conforming to the submission requirements will be rejected.
Cash Awards: Minimum of $1,200 total cash awards.
Liability: Artists must provide own insurance. Studio Montclair does not provide insurance and may not be held liable for damage to any artwork exhibited. Studio Montclair will make every possible effort to handle all artwork with care and respect.
Sales: A 30% donation will be retained by SMI on all sales. Works available for sale will be sold at the price indicated on the entry form. No changes in price will be permitted upon acceptance. Works not for sale should be listed NFS and include an insurance value.
Usage of Images: Studio Montclair reserves the right to photograph and use accepted work for documentation, website, publicity, social media or catalog purposes.

Agreement: Entering your work in this exhibition constitutes an acceptance of all the requirements set forth in this prospectus and, if accepted, the Artist Instructions.

Notification Date: Friday, March 15, 2019.
Opening Reception and Cash Awards: Saturday, May 4, 2019, from 6 to 9 pm
Delivery of Artwork by Hand: Wednesday, April 24 – Saturday, April 27, during regular gallery hours.
Delivery of Artwork by Shipping: Schedule delivery from Saturday, April 20 to Saturday, April 27.
Pickup of unsold artwork: Wednesday, June 19 – Saturday, June 22 during regular gallery hours.
