Studio Montclair seeks entries for State of the ART 2019. An exhibition celebrating the talent and diversity of Studio Montclair’s artist members. All SMI members are guaranteed one piece in this exhibit. Renew your membership or join Studio Montclair today!

Exhibition Dates: June 28 – August 9, 2019
Entry Deadline: Friday, May 3, 2019
Notification Date: Monday, May 6, 2019
Opening Reception: Friday, June 28, 2019 from 7 to 9 pm
Hand Delivery of Work: Wednesday, June 19 – Saturday, June 22 during gallery hours*. You or your agent must deliver all work within this time period.
Delivery of Artwork by Shipping: Week ending June 22, 2019. Return shipping label must be included. UPS and FedEx only. No packing peanuts please!
Pickup of Unsold Work: Saturday, August 10 – Saturday, August 31 during gallery hours – summer hours will apply.

*Regular gallery hours are W-F 11am-3pm, Saturday 12-3pm

Online entry (Entrythingy) only.

2 images that conform to the size limitations listed under specifications. One or more will be chosen depending on the number of participants.

Work must have been completed within the past 2 years. Work previously shown in any SMI exhibition will not be accepted.

Three views of 3D work will be accepted.

For JPEG file format images. Files should be a minimum size of 1600 pixels on the longest side. We will accept lower resolution images, but please note that those images cannot be used for publicity. Digital images should be cropped to show only your artwork. If edges are irregular, it is best to photograph against a black background.

Submit work that will be available for the duration of the exhibition. No substitutions will be accepted after selections are finalized.

Please note for accepted work: The profile you submit with Entrythingy will be used for the online gallery.


For 2D Work: Due to space limitations, artists are asked to submit 2 pieces of work: One with a max size of 24 inches in any direction including mat and frame, the other a max size of 12 inches in any direction including mat and frame. There is no minimum size. Weight not to exceed 50 lbs.

For 3D Work: Artists may submit 2 pieces, maximum 2 feet at base and 72 inches high. Not to exceed 75 lbs. Artists may be asked to supply their own pedestals if necessary.

Video: mov, mp4, and wmv files will be accepted up to 500mg.

Floor installation: Maximum 24X24x72 inches, not to exceed 100 lbs.

NO ceiling hung work. Electronic and digital works must be ready to show — artists must provide all components.

No giclee reproductions of original art accepted

All wall-hung art must be properly wired for hanging, no saw-tooth hangers. Stretched canvas may have finished painted edges or strip framing. No large decorative frames. Gallery format framing only – Visit SMI website for framing requirements.

LIABILITY: SMI does not provide insurance for theft, loss, or damage of artwork while artwork is on the premises or in transit. Artists must provide their own insurance.

SALES: 30% commission will be retained by SMI on all sales.

USAGE OF IMAGES: Studio Montclair reserves the right to photograph and use accepted work for documentation, website, publicity, social media, or catalog purposes.

AGREEMENT: Entering your work in this exhibition constitutes an acceptance of all the requirements set forth in this prospectus.
Studio Montclair Gallery is a 1,000 sf light filled gallery in the Montclair Arts District. It is easily accessible by train or bus.
