Project Summary

 

Producer’s Edge will lead an after-school teen music production program at the brand new Gant-Gilbert Arts Collective. This STEAM + Language Arts educational program will teach musical composition, audio engineering, and creative writing. Recording sessions will take place in a portable vocal booth where the students will create their own original songs.

Aurway will provide holistic arts programming to several Newark school communities through the presentation of an original musical Life Through My Eyes by Lawrence Dandridge coupled with collaboration from other local organizations ImSoYoga Newark and Aya Paper Co. to provide tools and services that will help students develop stronger relationships with both mental health awareness and practice using the arts as a primary catalyst.

Ivy Hill Vailsburg Center for Arts Culture and Community Activism (ACCA) provides year-round arts and cultural classes – visual art/scene design, vocal music, piano, theater arts/scene design, dance, community activism, creative writing, poetry/short story, Tai Chi, and gentle stretch – to people of all ages.

Back to the Future: An Intergenerational Arts Program

Project Summary

 
Artists take elders and youth “Back 2 the Future”, in a virtual intergenerational art program. Newark students at Roberto Clemente Elementary School and Elliott Street Elementary School will meet virtually with adult seniors living with first and mid-stages of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Students and adult seniors will explore theatre, art, poetry, and music together. A culmination session invites participants, students, school administration, and participating artists to celebrate works created during the program.

The Institute of Music for Children’s mission is to engage children and youth in artistic expression and the creative process.

Community Institute provides multi-media and performing Arts Residencies in three to five sites within Newark Public Schools.

Project Summary

Newark Rebellion one-day showcase workshop, teens will learn to research play topics and write about cultural or historical issues such as the Newark Rebellion.

Teens will delve into Pia Wilson’s play, “Down Neck”, which is based on the 1967 Newark race conflict.

The workshop will culminate with students sharing their written works in the form of monologues, short screenplays, and narratives. Students learn performance writing and develop an understanding of theater.

STEAM URBAN is an expressive arts and STEM-disciplined education program for Black and Brown students of all ages. We design innovative educational experiences taught by our Radical Educators.

Project Summary

Newark Print Shop’s “Sun Prints Project” will introduce area youth to sun printing using nature as inspiration.

Sun prints, also known as cyanotypes, are a photographic process using light-sensitive paper to reproduce images of plant specimens.

Through this initiative, Newark Print Shop will partner with Apiary in the Sky Community Garden to offer a series of fun and engaging sun printing workshops, engaging area youth in skills-based learning of this exciting form of printmaking.
