Expressions of Love+Unity: Poetry & Spoken Word Showcase

Theme: “Love+Unity Starts With Me”

Finalists and winners will be invited to perform live on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 7:00pm at an exclusive venue in Newark, NJ. They will also receive plaques, and possibly have their work published in local news!

Submissions should consider the theme of “love+unity starts with me,” and speak to the important role we each play or how we can each use our unique talents or individuality to spread Love+Unity in the community.

Submission Guidelines:

Poem or short essay of no more than 300 words

Must be original work

No profanity

Applicants must attend school in Newark, NJ (Grades 7th - 12th)

How submissions will be evaluated:

Originality - Creative, thought-provoking, well-developed ideas.

Voice - The writer's voice is engaging, strong, and draws the reader in.

Grammar - Creative word choices, correct spelling, and punctuality will be considered.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Poetry submission deadline: Friday, April 4, 2025 at 11:59pm

Winners will be notified by April 25, 2025

Live performance, May 3, 2025 at 7:00pm
